Peripass supports the VIL ‘Smart Driver Pass’

Nov 23, 2019 | Company Update, Partnerships

With this project, VIL wants to design a user-friendly application that focuses on access control systems in logistics. The aim is a unique, remote and contactless system to give access to drivers to company sites, for loading and unloading of their trucks. This project aims at shippers, terminals and logistics service providers, active in several industries, with access control needs on their site, especially for Flemish SMEs. VIL is the Flemish innovation platform for the logistics sector.

Still many companies today use their own access procedures, often manually managed and in which the drivers usually have to register physically. Leading to long waiting times, inconveniences and extra costs. In collaboration with seven companies, VIL wants to provide an answer to these challenges, by developing a user-friendly solution: The Smart Driver Pass.

Manual procedures can lead to human mistakes, followed by possible loss of time and additional costs. Thanks to the day-to-day experience, Peripass will share its expertise and software solutions in yard management: from automating and digitizing the logistics check-in process, to digitally mapping the various visitor flows and building a digital twin. With Peripass, we believe in the purpose of this project. A uniform driver pass, containing information of the driver, would improve driver communication & safety as well as site efficiency.

With the “Smart Driver Pass” project, VIL wants to combine existing individual solutions together into one clear application. The system will be based on an operating system for smartphone applications, linked to back-end databases. So, this will be an easily accessible solution for loading and unloading zones, efficient for users and the ideal foundation for further innovations in supply chain.

Seven companies endorse this project to find innovative solutions: Peripass, Aperam Stainless Steel Belgium, Atlas Copco Airpower, Barry Callebaut Belgium, DP World, Fluvius, and Zetes.

This project is supported by VLAIO, the Agency for Innovation and Enterprise of the Flemish Government.

VIL, is the innovation platform for the logistics sector and aims to preserve and strengthen Flanders as a top logistics region. VIL offers Flemish companies the opportunity to participate in innovative logistics projects or unique networking opportunities.
